Moshtaq Ahmed (মোস্তাক আহমেদ; born 17 November 1978) is a Bangladeshi technology entrepreneur. He has worked on digital infrastructure and information technology projects in Bangladesh and several African countries.[1][2]
Early life and education
Ahmed was born on 17 November 1978 in Narsingdi, Bangladesh.[2] His father worked as a deputy assistant engineer in the Local Government Engineering Department.[2]
He completed higher secondary education at Dhaka College and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Jahangirnagar University.[1]
Ahmed later earned a Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) degree in information technology from Harvard University.[1]
Career
During university, Ahmed worked on educational software and IT projects. He contributed to Bangladesh's electronic birth registration system in collaboration with UNICEF.[1]
In the mid-2000s, he moved to Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) to work on information technology projects, including computerization of local government and administrative systems.[2] He later expanded his work to other African countries including South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, and Mozambique.[2]
In 2010, Ahmed founded Nybsys, an IT company providing software and networking solutions in Africa and South Asia.[1] He serves as the chief executive officer.[3]
In 2026, Ahmed marked twenty years of leading technology operations across Southern Africa through Nybsys and its regional arm DataNet. Under his leadership, the company built and continues to operate critical national infrastructure in Eswatini, including the national 999 emergency response service and the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CDAS) platform used by frontline responders, as well as the CDAS system in Lesotho.[4] He directed the company's expansion into Botswana in 2026, with a deployment of Nybsys's NanoLink base station technology at a Botswana Telecommunications Corporation flagship store in Gaborone — a project coordinated under his direct guidance.[4] Ahmed has described the company's mission as connecting populations in the Global South who remain on 2G or without any connectivity, and has expressed that developing network technology originating from the Global South for its own people is a core part of his vision.[4]
Awards and recognition
Ahmed received recognition at the NRB Global Awards in 2024.[5]
Speaking engagements
Ahmed has participated in events including the Healthcare Innovation Summit Africa (HISA) in 2018[6] and the Eswatini Economic Conference in 2019.[7] He also attended the NRB Conclave 2024.[8] In June 2026, Ahmed was featured in the Times of Eswatini on the occasion of Nybsys's twentieth anniversary, where he spoke about connecting underserved populations and building network technology originating from the Global South.[4]
