Sarah Elisabeth Dekker.[1] (born 17 February 2000), known professionally as Moonloops is a Dutch singer-songwriter. Her style blends elements of indie pop and bedroom pop[2] with mellow, gentle guitar ballads.
In 2020 she released her first album, Ghost, which she wrote, produced, recorded and mixed herself.[3] In April of 2023 she released her EP Little Astronaut which is the A-side to her next album. The EP Big Dreams is set to release in January 2024 and will complete her album Little Astronaut, Big Dreams.
Early life
Dekker was born in the Dutch city of Groningen.[3] She began to write songs at the age of thirteen after being surrounded by music her whole life.
Later she moved to Leeuwarden to study Popular Culture[4][5][6] at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences.[3]
Career
Dekker self-released her first album, Ghost, on July 31, 2020. In 2021, she won the Kleine Prijs van Friesland[7][8][9], a Dutch music competition. She took part in Hit-The-North[10][11][12] which gave her the tools and connections to professionally record het next album Little Astronaut, Big Dreams which is set to release in January 2024 on the label Polymoon.[13]
After playing live on her own for year, she formed her band consisting of: Ian Wijma (drums), Loran Koehorst (bass) and David Mulder (keys).[14] With her band she played a show at ESNS.[15][16][17][18] In the fall of 2023 she and her band took part in Popronde,[19][20][5] a dutch travelling festival.
She has taken part in multiple exchange programs like Excite Music[21], where she wrote a song with Isaac Roux[22][23], and Stage Europe Network. She has also had a residency with Hana Lili[24]
She is also apart of the duo Amonia Caramel with her best friend Cath Harryvan.[25]
