Monica Rubombora is a business leader with proven tentacles stretching across finance and aviation. She has a record of driveng growth in the airline busines and expanding markets across different regions. At the moment, She doubles as the Country Manager for the Uganda Airlines in the UK as well as Country Manager of the same airline in South Africa. by this she manages two of the airline’s most strategic and fastest growing routes. In these roles she has spearhead the airline’s entry into London, one of the world’s most competitive long-haul hubis, while strengthening commercial partnerships and revenu performance in South Africa.[1].
Her career is spans leadership roles at Ernst & Young (EY), Accenture, South Africa Public Service and in government advisor, where she supported large-scale transform programmes. Monica is also a best-sell author, having published practical guides on government procurement and co-authored several international anthologies on success, entrepreneurship, happiness, and wealth. A passionate defender of her roots and culture, Monica has also published a story book in her native language, Rutooro. Tooro, her homeland, is the centre of another book she co-authored about the beautiful crater lakes which won an award[2].

Early Life
Monica Rubombora was born in Fort Portal, in the Tooro region of western Uganda. As the daughter of a District Commissioner, she grew up on the move. By the end of her primary years, she had already attended seven different schools across Uganda, from Jinja and Soroti to Mbale, Lira, and back to her birthplace, Fort Portal.
Her early classrooms included Fairway Primary School and Magale Girls Boarding School in Mbale, Buhinga Primary School in Fort Portal, and St. Augustine's Demonstration School in Butiiti, Mwenge. For secondary school, she studied at the prestigious Nyakasura School in Fort Portal (with a brief two-week stop at Kyebambe Girls School) before completing her A-levels at the well-known Gayaza High School in Kampala.
The frequent relocations could have been unsettling, but instead they shaped Monica’s outlook. She learned how to adapt quickly, settle into new environments, and embrace Uganda’s cultural diversity. These skills would later define her professional journey in leadership.
Education
After complete her high school at Gayaza High School in Uganda, Monica Rubombora went on to Makerere University for a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Social Administration. She later pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Programming at the Priyadarshini Institute for Computer-Aided Knowledge in India, a qualification that gave her a solid grounding in technology.
Her academic path didn’t stop there. She obtained an Honours Degree in Human Resource Development from Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa, and then a Master’s in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa.
Career
Monica Rubombora wrote her own job description[3]. Her professional journey begin at the Parliament of Uganda, where she worked as an Assistant Clerk. That early role grounded her in governance, protocol, and the workings of democratic institutions. The lessons she drew in structure and accountability continue to shape her leadership style.
When she moved to South Africa, her career branched across several industries. She first joined First National Bank, where she developed a commercial lens and a deep appreciation for how financial systems drive business growth. It was a shift from policy to markets, sharpening her ability to think both strategically and operationally.
She then moved into insurance with Momentum Life, one of South Africa’s largest life insurers. Insurance taught her the value of risk management, long-term planning, and resilience, principles she has applied throughout her career.
Entrepreneurship followed, as she established and ran her own technology consulting business. This experience gave her a taste of both the freedom and pressures of building something from scratch, and it reinforced her appreciation for innovation, agility, and discipline.
Her career then took her into technology with EDS Africa, now part of Hewlett-Packard. There she entered the fast-moving world of IT services, broadening her understanding of how technology can address complex business and government challenges.
From there she transitioned into management consulting at Andersen Consulting, later Accenture, rising to Managing Director for Health and Public Sector in South Africa. In that role she led multi-country portfolios, helping governments and organisations rethink structures, drive transformation, and unlock value through their people.
Alongside this, she also served in the Gauteng Provincial Government as Deputy Director-General for Procurement, overseeing a multibillion-rand spend, modernising procurement systems with SAP SRM, and expanding B-BBEE participation.
Later, she returned to her entrepreneurial roots, running another technology consulting venture before joining Ernst & Young (EY) as a Partner in People Advisory Services. At EY she focused on guiding organisations through transformation, leadership, and workforce challenges, always aligning people strategies with business goals.
Today Monica Rubombora is Country Manager for Uganda Airlines, first in South Africa from 2021 to 2025 and now in the United Kingdom, where she also oversees the airline’s operations at London Gatwick. Her role combines commercial leadership, operations, and strategic partnerships, ensuring the airline expands its footprint in competitive markets while staying true to its East African roots.

Monica Rubombora is a published author whose works span business, travel, and personal transformation. Her 2019 book, Government Tenders (Don’t) Suck![4], is a straight-talking guide that has empowered small businesses to successfully navigate and win big in the complex world of public procurement. In 2021 she went on to celebrate heritage and natural beauty by co-authoring an award-winning book, 40 Amazing Crater Lakes to Visit in Tooro Before You Die[5], which earned a Silver Medal at the Global Book Awards in 2021.
