Mona Yousefi (born July 10, 1982) is a British actress and writer.[1] She is best known for her eclectic style and her alter egos Tallah Khosravian, Wakana Fukui, and Natascha Leboushkin. Yousefi gained recognition from her first directorial television debut Mayhem Makers. She rose to prominence with her performance in Going Native, which was commissioned by the BBC.[2][3]

Yousefi has been featured in numerous media outlets for her performance and witty roles including Daily Mail, The Daily Beast, IB Times, BBC, The British Comedy Guide, the London Evening Standard, Marie Claire and several others.[4][5]

Early life and education

Yousefi was born and brought up in London, UK, by Iranian parents. After completing her high school education at the Hall School Wimbledon, Yousefi enrolled in the University of Greenwich London, where she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications. After that Yousefi went to the University of Westminster London to pursue a postgraduate LLM in Entertainment Law.

Later, Yousefi trained under Sam Rumbelow, a prominent acting teacher known for method acting, and took clown training with the renowned Philippe Gaulier. Yousefi also did stunt training at the British Action Academy in 2016 with Andreas Petrides one of the UK’s leading Action Directors, Stunt Coordinators, Fight Arrangers, and Stunt Performers.

Career

Yousefi started her career as a paralegal at Joseph Hill &Co, a Criminal Law firm in London.[6]

She started her career in the media industry in 2007 when she took her first directorial role in E4’s Mayhem Makers. Yousefi wrote, directed, and produced the show, which aired as part of the Funny Cuts strand in 2007. Under the leadership of Yousefi, Mayhem Makers got commissioned without an agent or any industry connections. Yousefi tied a trailer tape of her show to a helium balloon and tried to deliver it to the reception of Channel 4. After getting kicked out, Yousefi climbed up the side of the building to the mail-room window where she paid the post room guy ten pounds to put the trailer onto the desk of the Head of Comedy.[7]

Later Yousefi created “Going Native” where she starred in multiple roles playing three characters pranking the UK under the unsuspicious guise of a genuine documentary. Going Native was commissioned by BBC and launched on BBC 3. This show acquired much appreciation and was highly acclaimed by the audience, so much so that it got her in the news under the ubiquitous headline “The Female Borat”.[8]

Art

Yousefi is best known for her unique style comprising a creative approach to personality embodiment. Her method acting approach to character development helped her create three alter egos, Tallah Khosravian, a Middle-Eastern businesswoman, Wakana Fukui, the Japanese Lolita girl, and widow Natascha Leboushkin, a Russian social climber.[9]
