Momin Khan (Born 22 November 1998) is an Indian sarangi player. He belongs to the Jaipur Gharana of Indian classical music.

Early Life and Musical Training

Momin Khan was born on 22 November 1998 into a family of musicians that has been devoted to Indian classical music for eight generations[1]. He grew up surrounded by musicians in a 42 room haveli. He recalls first hearing the Sarangi as his ‘lori’ (lullaby), a tradition that runs in the family.

At the age of 6, Momin Khan started training under the tutelage of his father Moinuddin Khan (musician), a renowned vocalist and instrumentalist of Indian classical music, who was awarded Padma Shri (the fourth highest civilian award) in 2014. He has also given several stage performances with his father[2][3][4]. His grandfather, Ustad Mehboob Khan was also a distinguished Sarangi player and he was awarded the title of ‘Sarangi Samrat’.

Momin graduated with a BA in music (both vocals and sarangi) from the Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University, Lucknow, India. He was awarded a full scholarship, selected amongst 300 students.

Career

Momin started performing on stage at the tender age of seven. Over the years he has mesmerized the audience across the globe with his captivating solo sarangi performances[5][6][7][8][9]. He has had the privilege of accompanying maestros such as Taufiq Qureshi[10], Pt. Yogesh Samsi, Pt. Satyajit Talwarkar, Ravi Chary, Fazal Qureshi, Gino Banks and more. He is a versatile performer and has collaborated with several artists including Arjit Singh, Javed Ali, Harshdeep Kaur [11], Shilpa Rao, Divya Kumar (singer), and Louis Banks to name a few. These collaborations span across music genres and styles such Jazz, Fusion and Bollywood music [12]. Momin has played Sarangi in a number of songs in Bollywood and Mollywood movies such as Dabang 3, Gangubai, Abhyan, and Chamak
