Mohan Ananda (born26 April 1946) is an American businessman and author.[1] He is the Chairman and CEO of the Innovative International Acquisition Corp,[2] a blank check firm with the goal of acquiring one or more businesses and assets through a merger, capital stock exchange, asset acquisition, stock purchase, and reorganization. Ananda is also the chairman of IGDS Technologies Private Limited and SecondOpinionExpert, Inc.[3] He has a net worth of US$360 million as of March 15, 2022.[4]

Ananda now serves on the boards of several companies and maintains extensive ties with the investment industry, including investment banks and venture capital organizations. Dr. Ananda is also the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Ananda Foundation, a non-profit organization.[5]

Early life and education

Ananda was born on 26 April 1946in Kannur, Kerala, India. Later he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from India's Coimbatore Institute of Technology, his M.S. in Aeronautics from California Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in Astrodynamics and Control from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his J.D. from the University of West Los Angeles.

Career

Ananda began his entrepreneurial career in 1996 when he founded Stamps.com,[6] a prominent provider of Internet-based mailing and shipping solutions. Ananda invented the secured e-commerce technology, which is protected by a number of US patents, during his time there. This business was the first USPS-licensed vendor to offer PC Postage® as a software-only service. During his tenure of three years as CEO, the company raised over $450 million in capital through private and public offerings.

In 1998, Ananda started Ananda Enterprises of which he currently serves as the CEO. The umbrella firm is based out of Thousand Oaks, California. In 2012, Ananda joined SecondOpinionExpert which is best known for offering bespoke eHealth Records and Second Opinion services.[7] He currently serves as the CEO of this firm. He also serves as the executive chairman and board member of IGDS Technologies, Innovation Endeavors, and Frientap. Ananda has also been a partner in the law firm of Ananda & Krause and has been licensed to practice law in California since 1986.

Ananda launched Innovative International Acquisition Corp. (IOAC) in 2020,[8] a special purpose acquisition business that focuses on consumer technology, healthcare, and technology services companies. He also released his book, “Autobiography of an Immigrant”, in the same year. This book chronicles his journey from India to America, including his personal experiences and lessons learned along the way.

In his career, Ananda was also the founder and director of JAB Holdings Ltd and Envestnet. JAB Holding is a European venture capital firm that was funded by a public offering on the London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market. Ananda was in charge of JAB Holdings' investment in RM Auctions, a company that specializes in high-end automotive auctions. Envestnet was a leading provider of integrated portfolio, practice management, and reporting solutions to financial advisors and institutions. Ananda served on the Board of Directors of Envestnet for a number of years.[9]

Ananda also had a distinguished aerospace career, which includes stints at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Aerospace Corporation, a civilian think tank focused on the US Air Force's space programs. Dr. Ananda was a key figure in the development of the United States Department of Defense's Global Positioning System (GPS). He possesses a number of U.S. and foreign patents and has published scholarly papers in major scientific journals.

Personal life

Ananda is married to Dr. Rajeswari Ananda and the couple have two children together named Ajay Ananda and Rajeev Ananda.
