Career
Appointment as Head of DMP Detective Branch
Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman was appointed as the head of the DMP Detective Branch on 31 July 2024. Prior to this appointment, he was responsible for logistics, finance, and procurement at the DMP.[2]
Predecessor's Controversy
His predecessor, Harun Or Rashid, faced criticism for his handling of the custody of six quota reform protest coordinators. Rashid was criticized for detaining the protest leaders, feeding them at his office, and posting pictures on Facebook. This incident drew significant backlash from various quarters, including a rebuke from the High Court, which described the incident as "a mockery of the nation."
Media reports indicated that leaders of the Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance criticized Rashid during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 29 July 2024. A source suggested that the Prime Minister was also displeased with his actions.
