Mohamed Omar Al-Mashay (Arabic: محمد عمر المشاي) serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) as of 2023.

Career

Al-Mashay started his professional career as the chairman of the Food and Drug Control Center (FDCC). His time at FDCC was marked by challenges, notably an incident where he was kidnapped by militias. He was later released upon orders from Libya's Attorney General.

In 2022, Al-Mashay transitioned to the power sector, taking on his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors at GECOL.With his guidance, GECOL began reforms aimed at improving the reliability of the national electrical grid. Under his tenure, power outages in Libya became less frequent. While his leadership was pivotal, the broader systemic changes and collective efforts in place also significantly contributed to this improvement.

Throughout his leadership at GECOL, Al-Mashay took part in numerous activities to bolster the company's operations. This includes inspecting the electricity system in Benghazi and engaging in discussions about the company's contracts.
