Mitchell Group (born September 20,1952) is an American character actor known for recurring roles on "The Young and the Restless" as Louie the pawnbroker, "Nightstand" as Normand Desmond and the CBS sitcom "Mama Malone" as Harry. In addition he has guest starred on numerous television shows as well as appearing in numerous feature films.
Early Lif e
Group was born in the Bronx New York on September 20, 1952 four blocks from Yankee Stadium. He grew up in the housing project Hillside Homes, Pelham Parkway, and his family was one of the first to live in Coop City. He went to public school (P.S. 78), J.H.S. 113, Christopher Columbus High School. and Lehman College C.U.N.Y. all in the Bronx.
Career
Group studied at the Strasberg institute with Ernie Martin, Shelley Winters, and Anna Strasberg as well as at the Actors Studio and with Jeff Corey. In addition to his recurring roles on "The Young and the Restless", "Nightstand" and "Mama Malone" he has guest starred on N.Y.P.D. Blue, Murphy Brown, Matlock, Civil Wars, Alf, Cagney & Lacy, Benson, and The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Hollywood Follies among many others. His film credits include Oh,God! You Devil, North, The In-Laws, Prime Target,Three of Hearts and The Janitor among others. He has appeared on stage in New York Off Broadway in the 1970 cast of the Pulitzer prize winning play "No Place to be Somebody", The New Day repertory company production of "The Marijuana Trap" and "Viveca Lindfors and Friends" at the Mercer Arts Center. In Los Angeles he appeared in "Natural Affection at the Odyssey theater, "Coming Attractions" at the Callboard theater and "Man with Bags starring Russ Tamblyn and directed by Dean Stockwell at the Pilot Theater.
