Miss Universe Nepal (MUN), run by the Brave, Bold & Beautiful organization, is a beauty pageant competition which has evolved into a leadership platform for women. The contest selects the country representative for Miss Universe.[1] The current Miss Universe Nepal title holder is Pradeepta Adhikari.[2] She has been the title holder since 2019.

Miss Universe Nepal 2020 is the first all-inclusive beauty pageant in Nepal with the intent to empower Nepalese women and grow them into leaders. This will also be the first ever beauty pageant competition to be conducted digitally. The complete pageantry process is happening through the use of an app for the registration and evaluation process.

History

Miss Universe Nepal officially began in 2017 and the first title was handed over to Nagma Shrestha.[3] The contest was conducted by Hidden Treasure Nepal until 2019 when Brave, Bold & Beautiful (previously known as Ma: Nepali) became the official franchisee for Miss Universe on June 11, 2020.[4] The company was co-founded by Ms. Nagma Shrestha and CG Corp Global.[5]

Pageant of Firsts

  • Brave, Bold & Beautiful Miss Universe Nepal is the first beauty pageant to be happening independent of other pageants.
  • Miss Universe Nepal is the first beauty pageant of global scale to be led by a woman in Nepal.
  • This is the first time any beauty pageant is being organized in Nepal without limitations on shape and size.
  • MUN is the first beauty pageant in Nepal to make transgender women eligible to participate.

Transforming pageantry

Miss Universe Nepal is transforming pageantry by welcoming every Nepali who identifies themselves as a woman from all backgrounds, belief systems, body types, and biological sex spectrum. MUN has also welcomed transgender women in the beauty pageant for the first time in Nepal and has set no limitations on the basis of shape and size for participation. Going digital has allowed Nepalese women to compete from wherever they are and whatever their economic circumstance is; broadening the participation in the contest like never before.

Building through COVID-19 pandemic

During a digital press conference on June 11, 2020, it was announced that Miss Universe Nepal will be an all digital competition starting right from the registration; participants will be able to register themselves through the MUN app.[6] The voting and finalist selection will also be conducted virtually. This will be the first ever beauty pageant in which all the in-between procedures of the contest before the finale is happening digitally through the help of Miss Universe Nepal App.
