Misha is a Finnish producer-artist and songwriter known for blending alternative R&B, hip-hop, soul and electronic music, which he describes as Future Soul.[1] His work combines soulful chord progressions, dreamy synth sounds, live instrumentation, funky basslines and collaborative songwriting with vocalists and musicians from international R&B/Soul scenes.[2]

Originally emerging from Finland’s hip-hop scene, Misha gradually expanded his work into collaborations with singers and artists across North America and Europe. His productions frequently feature vocalists and musicians connected to Alternative R&B, Neo-Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop music communities.

Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with artists including Lalah Hathaway, Nate Smith, Talib Kweli, Amber Navran (of Moonchild), Oddisee, Gwen Bunn, KALLITECHNIS, BeMyFiasco, Kadeem Tyrell and Joya Mooi, while also working with musicians connected to the wider R&B and jazz-fusion traditions. In addition to performing as an artist, Misha is also known as a producer and collaborator whose work often bridges different musical cultures and recording environments.[3][4]

His music has also reached audiences through visual media, with placements in several films and television series, including Amazon MGM’s Mercy,[5][6] HBO Max’s South Side,[7] and ALLBLK’s Wild Rose[8] and G.R.I.T.S.,[9] further extending his international presence and showcasing the cinematic qualities of his productions.

Early career and musical background

Misha first gained recognition in Finland through his contributions to the local hip-hop scene as a rapper (under the name Haamu) and as a producer, collaborating with a range of established local acts. His early work has sometimes been associated with what observers have described as the Finnish “Haamu” aesthetic – a loosely defined style combining soulful harmonies, funky beats and cinematic sound design.[10]

This early phase established many of the sonic elements that would later become central to his production style, including hip-hop-based drum programming, jazzy harmonies, warm analogue textures, funky grooves, layered instrumentation and a strong emphasis on mood and atmosphere.

Although these early releases were largely connected to Finnish music scenes, Misha’s influences were already strongly rooted in international R&B, hip-hop and soul traditions. Artists associated with neo-soul, jazz-fusion and alternative R&B played a significant role in shaping his musical direction during his formative years.

According to Misha, his later transition toward English-language collaborations with international vocalists was a natural development rather than a strategic shift. The musical direction reflected the sounds and traditions he had been drawn to since his youth.

Transition toward international soul and R&B collaborations

As his production style evolved, Misha increasingly began working with vocalists and musicians connected to the global alternative R&B and neo-soul scene. These collaborations often involved artists based in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, London, Toronto and Amsterdam, reflecting the increasingly international nature of contemporary music production.

Over time he developed a network of collaborators from the genre’s historical and cultural centers, particularly the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. His recordings frequently feature guest vocalists and instrumentalists from those scenes, creating a dialogue between his Nordic production background and traditions rooted in soul, jazz and R&B.

Misha has described himself as being aware that he approaches this musical tradition from outside its original cultural context. In interviews he has noted that he considers himself a guest within the genre and has expressed genuine appreciation for the openness and encouragement he has received from artists working within those communities.

This perspective has shaped his collaborative approach, which emphasizes mutual respect, musical dialogue and shared creative exploration.

Production work and collaborations

Beyond his own artist releases, Misha has developed a reputation as a producer and creative collaborator. His work frequently blends programmed beats with live instrumentation, drawing on influences from jazz, soul, hip-hop and electronic music production.

Among the artists he has collaborated with are Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated musicians connected to the modern soul and jazz scenes, including Lalah Hathaway, Nate Smith and Amber Navran. These collaborations have placed him within a wider network of musicians associated with contemporary R&B and Soul music.

His work often involves long-distance collaboration, with production developed in Finland while vocal recordings and instrumental contributions are created in studios across Europe and North America. This remote and international workflow has become a defining aspect of his creative process.

Finnish collaborators: Collaborations with Jussi Halme and cocabona

Two of Misha’s long-standing collaborators are local producers and musicians Jussi Halme and cocabona. They have worked together on multiple releases blending soul, R&B, jazz, indie and hip-hop influences.[11][12]

Their collaborative projects like JOMO (The Joy of Missing Out) brought together artists from several international music communities. The project featured vocalists recorded across multiple cities, including London, New York, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

Among the collaborators on the EP were UK R&B vocalist Kadeem Tyrell, Dutch singer Joya Mooi and other international artists contributing remotely to the project. Much of the production was developed in Helsinki, with vocals recorded in different studios around the world.

The EP also featured drummer Derrick McKenzie of Jamiroquai, who performed on the track “The Present.”[13] The collaboration came about after McKenzie heard the song “A Night In Rio pt.2,” which Misha had recorded together with Debórah Bond and Jussi Halme. Following a direct exchange between the artists, McKenzie joined a recording session in London where the track was produced.

The project explored themes of slowing down and prioritizing creativity and personal balance over constant productivity. The title JOMO refers to “The Joy of Missing Out,” reflecting a conscious choice to step away from the pressures of continuous activity and focus on meaningful creative work.

Misha’s collaborative work with Jussi Halme has been described as unique and cross-generational, with Jussi’s career starting in the 1970s. Jussi is a producer, composer, pianist and keyboardist from Finland. He has released solo material since 1983, written songs for other artists, and composed themes for nearly a hundred well-known TV programs in Finland, including the cult series Hyvät Herrat.

International collaborations and recording process

Many of Misha’s recordings are created through international collaboration networks spanning multiple countries and recording environments. His projects frequently combine production created in Finland with vocal performances recorded in studios in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London and Amsterdam.

Artists involved in these collaborations often record their contributions independently and exchange materials digitally, allowing creative partnerships to develop across geographical boundaries. This workflow reflects the increasingly decentralized nature of contemporary music production.

Through these collaborations, Misha has contributed to recordings that blend soul, R&B, hip-hop and jazz influences while maintaining a strong emphasis on groove-based songwriting and atmospheric production.

Misha & BeMyFiasco – Aura Gold project

Since 2023, R&B producer-artist Misha—whose collaborations include Lalah Hathaway, Talib Kweli, Nate Smith, and Moonchild’s Amber Navran—and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter BeMyFiasco, celebrated for work with SZA, Robert Glasper, The Foreign Exchange, and Little Brother, have been forging an unstoppable creative force. Their synergy has landed them on top editorial playlists, from Spotify’s NMF and Chilled R&B to R&B Weekly, R&B Fresh Finds, Lowkey, and Apple Music’s R&B Now, signaling a bold, modern R&B sound that’s both soulful and unapologetically fresh.

In 2026, Misha and BeMyFiasco[14] released Aura Gold,[15] a radiant cross-continental EP that proves great music is truly borderless. Crafted between North Carolina and Finland, the project is a richly layered tapestry of 70s funk and disco, 90s R&B and hip-hop, Afrobeats, Amapiano, and modern soul, resulting in a luminous, globally-infused sound rooted in radical honesty, courage, and love in all its messy, unapologetic forms.

Together they have performed in legendary venues like Jazz Café and Soul Mama in London. The project Aura Gold represents a continuation of Misha’s exploration of international collaborative production and genre-blending soul music.[16][17][18]

Musical style and artistic approach

Misha’s music is often characterized by slow grooves, soulful harmonies, layered instrumentation, and a fusion of electronic production with live musical performance. His work frequently blends elements of soul, R&B, hip-hop, jazz and ambient electronic music, which he describes as Future Soul.

A defining feature of his approach is the emphasis on collaboration with vocalists and instrumentalists from different musical traditions and cultural backgrounds. Rather than adhering to strict genre boundaries, his productions often move fluidly between styles while maintaining a strong focus on mood and groove.

Critics and collaborators have noted the cinematic and atmospheric qualities of his arrangements, as well as the influence of jazz harmony and soul songwriting traditions.
