Misbah Uddin is a Pakistani singer, songwriter, music producer and director.[1][2] He is known for his dream pop and retro styles of music.[3][4][5] He is also part of a progressive rock Pakistani band called Keeray Makoray.[6] The music production company named Rescue The Frog Studio was founded by him.[6]

Early life and education

Misbah completed his O and A Levels from LACAS, after which he pursued his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Media at the Lahore School of Economics.[1]

Career

He has formed several bands with Zain Peerzada including Takatak.[1][7] He ultimately left Takatak and went on to form Keeray Makoray with Altamash Sever and Luke Azariah.[1][7] In addition, he has been a part of other Pakistani music ensembles like Poor Rich Boy and Janoobi Khargosh.[1]

His journey as a solo artist began after he volunteered to teach children music and other academic subjects in Misgar Valley in Hunza.[1] Inspired by his time there he released a dream pop song called Baadal (meaning cloud) in 2018.[1] Baadal was nominated for the Best Indie Music Award at the Shaan-e-Pakistan Music Achievement Awards in 2019.[4] Misbah has also performed as a solo act at Lahore Music Meet (LMM)[8]. He also performed at Good Scene Fest in 2021[9] and 2023[10], where he other notable acts such as Haniya Aslam, Natasha Noorani and Jimmy Khan also featured.

Misbah's solo style has been described as "dream pop".[4][3] He is influenced by the synth pop Urdu band called Janoobi Khargosh,[6][4] and claims to listen to Tame Impala and synthwave.[4] His other singles also show the influence of the earlier Pakistani pop era artists such as Nazia Hassan.[7]

He also worked with Meekal Hasan and Asfar Hussain (the lead vocalist from Bayaan) to create a song title Urdh Jaa with themes of child justice in Pakistan in collaboration with Group Development Pakistan.[11]

As the founder of Rescue the Frog he has kept programs such as "Smog City Sessions" with MOSIKI in which other indie artists such as Maanu, Towers, Mehdi Maloof and Asfar Hussain perform their songs live in a stripped down version.[1]

Misbah has done film scoring and sound design for campaigns and short films such as The Round Lake which received a grant from the Novo Amor 565 Fund.[12][13] He has also worked with his fellow musician Nadir Shahzad to create Pakistan's first drama parody in the IGTV format.[14]
