Milka Kajganić (* 1951 in Kozarac as Milka Mraović) is a Croatian journalist and author.

Life

Kajganić graduated from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Belgrade and Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka, and has been writing as a freelance journalist since 1989. She lives in Zurich. She wrote the Kordun Reader's Book, which contains a Kordun dictionary, folk poems, jokes and humorous stories from Kordun, and recipes of Kordun cuisine. This book is now in its third edition and was described by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts as "an exceptional contribution to the study of Serb culture in Croatia".

Milka Kajganić writes her books in Croatian and Serbian (Latin and Cyrillic script). The books mentioned are also available in English. Her texts have appeared in numerous collections, anthologies and monographs. Kajganić also heads the writers' association "Literaturkreis Goldene Feder" Switzerland. She is a collector of Kordun folk editions and customs[1]. The novel Love of Freedom was awarded the Rastko Petrovic Prize for Best Novel 2022 in Serbia.

Milka's work as journalist and human rights activist[2] has been acknowledged worldwide and her correspondence with Bill Cliton has been published by Tesla Memorial Society of New York. She works actively with Literary Forum Kordun [3] and various excerpts from her book "The UNPROFOR Kid" get published there progressively.

Milka Kajganic is a renowned[4][5] victimologist. Her writings are highly treasured as her educational background both in law and medicine allowed her to give insights into the mental, physical and psycological issues faced by the victims of war. Milka's books reveal many secrets which were kept hidden during the Communist regime. It was forbidden to discuss these communist secrets in public till recent years. Her popularity in the early days is attributed to her open and real views on the Croatian war where she discusses the stories and state of people on both sides of the war. In his evaluation of the Crotian war[6], Giacomo Scotti has taken inspiration from her views on the state of Crotian war. Attributed to her writing style and the objective viewpoint, her articles were always sought after by historians and journalists. Milka's opinions as victimologist have been incorportaed in the documentary film "33 angles"[4] by the Norwegian historian Dr. Johannes Hvaal Solberg and Dimeski Dan Media Norway[7].
