Biography
Piero was born on April 7, 1987 in Medina, Ohio. During childhood, Piero developed a passion for literature, philosophy, and technology (especially video games and photography).[7] These interests would shape his pursuits as a writer and professor, including the incorporation of immersive media into his instruction as an avenue to thinking about ethics, justice, and critical thinking.[8]
A first-generation college student, Piero earned his A.A. in liberal arts at Cuyahoga Community College at the age of 18. He continued his learning at The University of Akron where he earned his B.A. in Secondary Education: AYA Integrated Language Arts.[9] Piero went on to study English literature and critical theory at John Carroll University, earning his M.A. in English there in 2011.[10] He later earned his Ph.D. in English from Old Dominion University, where he specialized in new media, game studies, and critical theory.[11]
Now a Professor of English, Piero teaches courses in writing, literature, game studies, and the humanities at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio.[12] Piero lives with his partner and daughter in the greater Cleveland area.
