Mike Lala (born August 2, 1987)[1] is an American poet and performance writer.[2][3][4] He is the author of two collections of poetry,[5] several chapbooks,[6] and several performances and plays.[7]
Lala lives and works in New York City.[8][9]
Early life an education
Lala was born in Lubbock, TX in 1987[10] to Robert A. Lala, a pilot in the United States Air Force, and Angie S. Lala, a nurse. He grew up on and nearby a number of USAF bases in the United States and Japan.[11] He studied at Michigan State University under Diane Wakoski, graduating in 2009 with a B.A. in English, and at New York University under Anne Carson and Yusef Komunyakaa, graduating in 2014 with an M.F.A. in creative writing.
