Mihail (full name Mihail Sandu, born November 15, 1990) is a composer, producer and performer from the unbulleted listRepublic of Moldovaunbulleted list currently living in unbulleted listRomaniaunbulleted list.[1]. His songs are influenced by unbulleted listexperimental popunbulleted list, unbulleted listindie rockunbulleted list and unbulleted listelectronicaunbulleted list, which combined creates his compositional style. He became known in the Romanian music industry after the release of the song "Mă Ucide Ea"[2] which by the end of 2022 has over 87 million views on unbulleted listYouTubeunbulleted list. The song "Who You Are"[3] has reached the European charts in countries such as unbulleted listItalyunbulleted list and unbulleted listPolandunbulleted list with over 22 million views on YouTube.

Career

In 2014, Mihail was signed by the record label Roton. In 2015 he released the song and the video for "Mă Ucide Ea"[4]. The song became a hit in Romania at the beginning of 2016 and remained in the charts all year[5]. "Mă Ucide Ea" reached the top of Romania sales[6]. The year concluded with the release of Lookout Tower Acoustic Session[7], which consists of four videos shot in the Firemen's Tower in Cluj Napoca for four songs: "Seara"[8], "Noi ne privim"[9], "Let's Make Love"[10], and "Doar visuri" (acoustic version).[11]

In 2016, Mihail won the "Best Male Voice" award awarded by Radio Romania[12] and Best New Artist at the Media Music Awards 2016[13]. Also this year, he released the video for the song "Simt ca ne-am îndepărtat"[14], which was filmed in Malta.

In 2017, Mihail released the song alongside the video "Who You Are"[15]. The track has been one of the most played tracks since its release and reached number 1 in the Media Forest charts[16]. "Who You Are" enjoyed international success, and the track entered the charts in Italy[17].


Mihail - End of Summer Session[18] is a project filmed on a rooftop in Cluj, where Mihail and bandmate Dan Petean play four songs from the new live set-up[19]. At the end of 2018, Mihail released the song and video "Dorul ma ia"[20][21].

In the beginning on 2019 single “Who You Are’’ became platinum in Italy according to F.I.M.I[22]. Mihail becomes an independent artist, not affiliated with any record label[23]. Mihail retreated to a cabin in the woods on the edge of Lake Tarnița, where he started working with his team on his first album[24]. In 2020 during the lockdown he released the song “Din Dor”[25][26]. After years of hiatus, during which he went through various creative processes, Mihail returned with "Chosen One"[27], the first single taken from the forthcoming album[28]. In May 2022, he was featured in a video on the Romanian "Diud"[29] YouTube channel, performing live with his band, three songs from the upcoming album.

In July 2022, Mihail returned with a new song and video, "Moontalks"[30], in which he pays homage to the moon, personified as a goddess. The track has no lyrics. What you hear is a mix of sounds and words invented by the artist to express his gratitude for the magical and mysterious presence of the moon[31]
