Miguel Di Pizio (born 4 January 2006), is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Central Coast Mariners.[1][2]
Early life
Di Pizio was born on 4 January 2006 in Australia. Since a young age, Di Pizio held a passion for football and idolised Argentinian footballer Paulo Dybala, often modelling his playing style around him when playing football.[3]
Club career
Central Coast Mariners
Youth career
Di Pizio started his career through the Australian NPL pyramid with Western Sydney Wanderers, playing in the youth leagues.[4] Despite being only 16 years old, he made his way into the first grade squad in 2022 and even scored during his senior NPL debut against Central Coast Mariners.[5] On the lead up to the 2023 season, Di Pizio joined the Central Coast Mariners NPL squad.[6][7]
Senior career
After four months of training and playing with the team, he caught the attention of Mariner's manager Nick Montgomery with his exceptional talents, which eventually led to the signing of a scholarship contract on 12 April 2023.[8] On 22 April 2023, during the closing stages of the 2022–23 A-League Men regular season, Di Pizio made his professional debut in a 3–1 win against F3 rivals Newcastle Jets, coming on as a substitute in the 85th minute of the match.[9][10] Due to his form at NPL senior level, he was added in the Mariners' 2023 A-League Grand Final squad,[11] but was not named on the match squad on the day.[12]
International career
Di Pizio was selected to represent the Australia U17 in preparation for the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualifiers.[13][14] During the tournament, he played alongside teammate Andre Parkes.[13] On 7 October, Di Pizio scored a brace in the 90th minute, contributing to his side 10–0 victory over Cambodia, and was named Key Player of the Match at Shepparton Sports City stadium.[15]
