Mighty Bolton (born November 28, 1990), commonly known as Art, is an American interviewer and journalist from Houston.[2] He is the founder of the YouTube channel, The Art of Dialogue.[3]

The channel is dedicated to chronicling the life of Tupac Shakur (2Pac), providing a platform for rappers to share their stories, and archiving significant moments in hip-hop history.[4] With over 452K subscribers and 203,349,464 million views worldwide, the channel features interviews with 2Pac's peers, enemies, and friends.[5][6] This often reveals new insights about the golden era of rap. Notable interviews on the channel include those with Kurupt, Styles P, MC Eiht, Xzibit, Keith Murray, and Keefe D[2][3]. These conversations often challenge the established narratives surrounding major events in hip-hop history, particularly those concerning 2Pac and Death Row Records[5].

Early life

Mighty Bolton is a Houston native who grew up in a single parent household[5]. Bolton initially blogged about film productions, such as "Straight Outta Compton", sourcing extras for exclusive information[2]. Over time, he developed a keen interest in interviewing, particularly focused on revealing previously unknown details about 2Pac's mindset[2]. This passion stemmed from his admiration of 2Pac, an artist he discovered in his childhood upon finding his uncle's 'All Eyez On Me' cassette tape[2]

Career

Mighty Bolton, despite lacking formal journalistic self-funded his channel, covering costs for flights, equipment, accommodations, and travels for in-person video interviews. Initially interviewing backup dancers and minor associates, he eventually progressed to engaging with legends like Easy Mo Bee and Charli Baltimore, often winning them over with his laid-back demeanor.[2]

Mighty Bolton, has facilitated numerous insightful interviews over the years, uncovering layers of complexity within the hip-hop community. One such interview, conducted on April 28, 2022, involved Reggie Wright Jr., the former head of security for Death Row Records. Wright Jr. shed light on the increased police activity surrounding the 2Pac murder investigation, sparking rumors that Keefe D, a long-time suspect, might be charged soon. However, Keefe D vehemently dismissed these claims during the interview, accusing Wright Jr. of being fixated on him. This denial came despite his previous admission in 2021 that he was present in the vehicle when his nephew, Orlando Anderson, allegedly fired the fatal shots. Keefe D not only denied imminent arrest but also expressed a desire for privacy, referencing Mariah Carey's "Obsessed" to drive home his point.[7]

Later, on September 28, 2022, MC Eiht revealed details of his interaction with Suge Knight amidst his feud with DJ Quik. The interview highlighted the challenges faced by Eiht and Quik due to their respective gang affiliations—Crip and Blood. Eiht shared an incident when Suge, whose mother was a neighbor of Eiht's mother, assured him that their feud would not compromise his mother's safety. This gesture provided Eiht with much-needed reassurance.[8]

Fast forward to April 20, 2023, when Outlawz rapper Napoleon shared a surprising revelation about the relationship between Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac Shakur. Despite their seemingly close friendship, Napoleon speculated that Snoop Dogg might have been jealous of Tupac. He suggested that Snoop Dogg's recurrent mentions of Tupac in interviews could be an attempt to regain the spotlight overshadowed by Tupac during their time at Death Row Records. This speculation hints at a deeper layer of complexity in their relationship, as Tupac's name continues to surface in Snoop Dogg's interviews, even 25 years after his passing.[9]

In June 2023, another significant interview was conducted on the 'The Art Of Dialogue' with Tupac Shakur's biological father, Billy Garland. Garland expressed his initial displeasure with his son's tribute song, "Dear Mama", as it labeled him a "coward" and erroneously proclaimed him dead. He also criticized the Hulu docuseries "Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur" and director Allen Hughes for misleading him about the interview's purpose and insinuating that Tupac had bipolar disorder. Despite these grievances, Garland now finds "Dear Mama" beautiful and listens to his son's music daily. However, he remains upset with Hughes and FX for blindsiding him and using his testimony against Afeni's legacy. Notably, despite Garland's discontent, FX announced 'Dear Mama' as its most-watched unscripted series premiere.[10][11][12][13][14]

On July 21, 2023, Mighty Bolton conducted yet another notable interview with Duane "Keefe D" Davis, focusing on the still-unsolved murder of rapper 2Pac. Davis, the uncle of alleged killer Orlando Anderson, displayed visible annoyance when asked about another theory implicating DeAndre "Dre" Smith in the murder. Despite the execution of a search warrant at his wife's house, yielding potentially related items, and the case being presented to a Las Vegas grand jury, it remains uncertain if any direct links to the 1996 drive-by shooting will be found. Investigators, despite believing that the gunman, Anderson, is already dead, hope to identify all present in the vehicle, potentially leading to accomplice charges. Anderson, identified as a suspect shortly after the incident, denied involvement and was never charged. To this day, no arrests have been made in the case.[15]

In September 2023, Duane (Keefe D) Davis was arrested in connection to the 1996 death of Tupac Shakur. Clark County officials have identified him as a central figure in the case. Davis had previously acknowledged his involvement in public interviews and his book, "Compton Street Legend." This book delves into the events of that fateful night and his subsequent actions to conceal evidence. These admissions have provided significant momentum to the investigation. Former detective, Greg Kading, emphasized the importance of Davis's public revelations in advancing the case.[16]
