Microsoft Word is the company's word processor. On October 25, 1983, it was launched as Multi-Tool Word for Xenix systems. Later versions were written for a variety of other platforms, such as IBM PCs with DOS (1983), Apple Macintoshes with Classic Mac OS (1985), AT&T UNIX PC (1985), Atari ST (1988), OS/2 (1989), Microsoft Windows (1989), SCO Unix (1990), macOS (2001), Web browsers (in 2010), iOS (2014), and Android (2015). (2015). Microsoft Word before to 2013 may be run on Linux with Wine.
Word's commercial counterparts may be acquired with a one-time licence or as part of Microsoft Office, both of which can be obtained either permanently or as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription.
