Microsoft Office, more commonly referred to as "Office," is a brand name for a suite of client software, server software, and online services that was developed by Microsoft. On August 1, 1988, Bill Gates made the initial public announcement of it at COMDEX in Las Vegas. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint were included in the initial release of Office, which was at first only a marketing phrase for a packaged set of office productivity apps known as an office suite. Over the years, Office programmes have become significantly more intertwined with one another through the addition of shared capabilities. These features include a shared spell checker, Object Linking and Embedding data integration, and the Visual Basic for Applications scripting language. Microsoft Office also serves as a development platform for line-of-business applications and is marketed by Microsoft under the brand name Office Business Applications.

It includes a word processor (Word), a spreadsheet software (Excel), and a presentation programme (PowerPoint), as well as an email client (Outlook), a database management system (Access), and a desktop publishing application (Publisher).

Office is developed in a number of distinct iterations, each of which is geared for a specific type of computer user and operating system. The desktop version is the original and the one that is used the most. It is compatible with personal computers that run either the Windows or macOS operating systems. Mobile applications for Android and iOS are also maintained by Microsoft. Office on the web is a version of the programme that can be used by logging onto a website and using the appropriate applications there.

These feature updates may include new cloud computing integration capabilities that are not necessarily included in the "on-premises" releases of Office that are sold under conventional licence terms. Since Office 2013, Microsoft has been pushing Office 365 as the primary means of obtaining Microsoft Office. In 2017, income from Office 365 sales surpassed revenue from traditional licence sales. In addition, the majority of Microsoft's regular Office 365 versions have been renamed as Microsoft 365 in order to underline the company's most recent incorporation of goods and services.
