Michele R. Wells (born New Jersey) is an American entertainment executive, literacy advocate,[1] and author[2] most notable as the former editor-in-chief at DC Comics.[3][4] She was also the Chairperson of First Book-Brooklyn, a nonprofit organization that provides books to kids in need.[5] Wells serves on the advisory board of Reading With Pictures.[6] She’s also the author of several books for children and young adults.[7]

Background

Wells was originally recruited to be Vice President at DC Graphic Novels for Young Adults, and was responsible for the launch of DC Graphic Novels for Kids and young adult graphic novels. Before joining DC Comics, she was executive editor at Disney Publishing Worldwide.[8] She then was recruited to Tapas Media.[9][10]

Philanthropy

Wells was the founding Chairperson of First Book-Brooklyn, a nonprofit organization that provides new books to kids in need; is on the Advisory Board of Reading With Pictures; and volunteers regularly with LA- and NYC-based literacy and mentoring programs.[11]
