He is a Republican.

Life and career

A resident of West Chester, Ohio, McNamara is a graduate of Miami University[4]. He formerly served as Director of Clermont County's Community + Economic Development Department and as Butler County, Ohio's Development Administrator.

McNamara was appointed Treasurer of Butler County in March 2023. His appointment came after then-Treasurer Nancy Nix left office to become the Butler County, Ohio Auditor. The Auditor's position was open because then-Auditor Roger Reynolds was removed from office for a felony conviction.[5][6] McNamara had one opponent in his bid for Butler County Treasurer.[7]

During McNamara's tenure with Clermont County, he successfully negotiated for the location of a $550 million Nestlé Purina facilty in Clermont.[8] [9] McNamara also led the creation of the Clermont County Land Reutilization Corporation, also known as the Clermont County Land Bank.[10]

In Butler County, McNamara worked to bring the $100 million West Chester Trade Center[11] to the region as well as other projects including the Kroger company's first-ever "shed" facility[12] and The Marcum - a mixed-use multi-family development in downtown Hamilton, Ohio designed to support businesses in the city's core.[13] McNamara also helped start and lead the Butler County Land Bank in 2012 when he worked for then-Treasurer Nancy Nix. The Butler County Land Reutilization Corporation (Land Bank) demolished hundreds of derelict, abandoned structures in Butler County while McNamara was Director. [14]

Since 1995 McNamara has been a political consultant working for some of Southwest Ohio's highest profile campaigns. He managed Brad Wenstrup's campaign for Cincinnati Mayor in 2009. That race set the stage for Wenstrup's successful run for Congress in 2012.[15] McNamara's experience led him to write The Political Campaign Desk Reference which is a guide for campaigns and candidates that has also been used as a text in classrooms in numerous universities.

Other notable clients of McNamara's include Pat DeWine, Phil Heimlich, Rob Portman, and many others.
