Michael Margolies is an American investment researcher and investor.

Early life

Michael Margolies grew up in Queens, New York, living with his parents and brother.[1]

Career

Margolies first entered the industry as a clerk on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.[1] At the start of Margolies’ career he was an analyst for both Oppenheimer Capital and Thomson McKinnon Securities.[2] He then began work with the hedge fund MA Berman.[1] In 1995 he started his own firm, Avalon Research Group, with David Hines in Boca Raton, Florida.[2] Margolies serves as the firm’s CEO.[3][4] As an analyst, his investigations into companies include surveying customer bases with questionnaires, in addition to interviews with employees.[1] His analysis of companies have been known to run contrary to those of other stock analysts, thus he has become known as a “bear” investment researcher. His firm was acquired in 2004 by the publisher Metal Investors. [5] Following this he became the head of Alpha Strategy Group.[6] He is now the Founder & CEO at Littlebanc Advisors LLC.
