Michael G. Schmidt is a practicing lawyer from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, specializing in litigation and bankruptcy.

Early life & education

Schmidt was born on February 11, 1976, in Fresno, California. He enrolled in Weber State University and received a bachelor's degree in Commercial German with a business minor, with honors. He then received his juris doctorate from the University of Idaho School of Law in 2003[1] and studied abroad in Prague under the University of San Francisco School of Law.[2]

Practice

Schmidt was admitted to the Washington State Bar as #34190 in 2003, and admitted to the Idaho State Bar in 2004 as #6911,[3] and is still active.[4] He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court, District of Idaho, and the United States Bankruptcy Courts, District of Idaho and Eastern District of Washington.[5] His areas of practice include:

  • Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, and debt relief.
  • Business contracts, business dissolution, business finance, business formation, business litigation, franchising, mergers and acquisitions, and partnership and shareholder disputes.
  • Construction contracts, construction defects, construction liens, and construction litigation.
  • Commercial real estate, condominiums, easements, eminent domain, homeowners association, land use and zoning, mortgages, neighbor disputes, residential real estate, and water law.

Business and accolades

Currently, Schmidt is an attorney at Lukins & Annis Attorneys, a law firm in the Spokane-Coeur d'Alene area[2][6], where he mostly works with clients addressing business litigation legal issues.[7][8] He has been selected in Rising Stars in 2008 and from 2012-2014, a designation from the company Super Lawyers which places him among the top 2.5% of attorneys rated.[9] Super Lawyers also selected him as the 2008 and 2012 Mountain States Rising Star.[10] Schmidt was selected in 2009 for Top 100 Lawyers by Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Living Magazine.[2] He is also a former special deputy prosecutor for Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office.[11]

Personal life

Schmidt lives in Coeur d'Alene with his wife and two daughters, and enjoys outdoor activities such as sportfishing, rock climbing, and Brazilian jiu jitsu.[12]
