Michael Aquino was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. In 1986 he was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in connection to the sexual abuse of several children at the Child Development Center at the Presidio of San Francisco Army Outpost. The investigation into Aquino was dropped, due to lack of evidence.

In 1991, Aquino sued the Army under the Privacy Act of 1974, to amend an Army report on the criminal investigation about him, and to recover damages due to alleged inaccuracies in the report and the use of his name in the title of the report. Both the district court and court of appeals denied Aquino's motion, ruling in favor of the Army.[1]

In 2013 a book titled "MindWar" was published through Amazon (company)'s self publishing platform CreateSpace. The book claims to contain an accidentally released top secret document, on military mind-control technology, written by Aquino.[2] Books on Satanism were also published under Aquino's name, through the same self publishing platform.[3] Due to these books, Aquino is the subject of a conspiracy theory that he is the founder of the Temple of Set.

Other books were self published under the name Michael Aquino, including a Star Wars parody book[4] and two sequels to "MindWar" called "MindStar" and "FindFar".[5][6]
