Michael "Cavs" Cavanagh is an Australian musician and drummer for the psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard[1].
Growing up in Australia, he used to sit in on his cousin's drum lessons before picking up the instrument at age 16, having been inspired by jazz and rock and roll drummers such as John Bonham and Louie Bellson.[2]
Cavanaghs's solo debut, the self-titled album CAVS was released in 2021. It is comprised of instrumental drum and percussion music. [1]
Equipment
As of 2023 the main kit that Cavanagh uses with King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is a C&C custom acrylic drum kit in "Amber" finish.[3] With his main kit Cavanagh uses Dream cymbals. The main cymbals he uses are: 15" Dark Matter Hi-hats, 22" Bliss Crash Ride, 22" Energy Ride, and a 18" Lion/China.[4][5] He began using Remo roto toms in 2021.[3]
