Michèle barones Sioen (Roulers, May 24 1965[1]) is a Belgian entrepreneur. Since 2005, she has been CEO of Sioen Industries|Sioen Industries group.

Biography

Studies

Michèle Sioen obtained the degree of master in the business studies. In addition, she took several postgraduate courses, including one at the Vlerick Business School|Vlerick Management School.

Career

In 1991, she started at Sioen Industries, the industrial textile company her father, Jean-Jacques Sioen, founded in 1960. Sioen first worked in various branches of the company. In 2005 she became Chief executive officer|CEO of Sioen Industries after her father became chairman of the board. [2] Today, the company is a diversified group, specialising in technical textiles, professional protective clothing and specialty chemicals. Sioen delists on May 31 2021.

Memberships

Michèle Sioen was a member of the board of directors in the textile federation Febeltex until it joined forces with the Timber and Furniture Federation Febelhout to Fedustria in January 2007.[3][4]Sioen was chairman of this sector organisation from 2007 to 2010 and has been a board member since then.[5]

On April 24 2014, she succeeded Pierre-Alain De Smedt as chairperson of the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (VBO). She became the first female president of this employers' organisation.[6][7] In March 2017, Sioen was succeeded by Bernard Gilliot as VBO chairman.[8][9]

  • Member of the Board of Directors of car distributor D'Ieteren|D'Ieteren (since May 2011)[11]
  • Member of the board of directors of the listed investment company Sofina (since May 2017)[12]
  • Member of the board of directors and the audit and risk committee of real estate developer Immobel.
  • Member of the Board of Directors of Vlerick Business School
  • Member of the Board of Queen Elisabeth Competition
  • President of Kanal Centre Pompidou - Museum of Contemporary Art

Family

Michèle Sioen is married to Marnix Galle, son of former minister Marc Galle and CEO of real estate developer Immobel. She has two sons and one daughter from a previous marriage to Bertrand Joris. Since October 2017, the entrepreneurial couple Galle-Sioen has been renting the Château du Stuyvenberg near the Park of Laeken in Laeken|Laeken. Until her death in 2014, the castle was the residence of Queen Fabiola of Belgium|Queen Fabiola and is rented out by the Royal Trust (Belgium).[13][14]
