Melis Turgunbaev is a Kyrgyz politician and government official. He is currently serving as the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic since March 2023.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Turgunbaev was born on May 2, 1982, in the village of Kyzyl-Suu, Kara-Suu District, Osh Region, Kyrgyz Republic. He completed his bachelor's degree in International Relations at the American University of Central Asia in 2003. In 2005, he obtained a diploma in Economic Policy from the Tokyo Foundation, Japan. In 2023, he completed the Master's degree in Leadership and Strategy (Sloan Fellows) at the London Business School in London, England.
Career
Turgunbaev's professional career began in 2002 when he joined the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Kyrgyzstan) as a senior specialist in the Public Debt Management Department. He held various positions in the finance sector before transitioning to the oil and gas industry.
From 2006 to 2015, Turgunbaev worked at LLC Gazprom Neft Asia, where he served as the Head of Market Analysis and Pricing Department. He then joined LLC Gazprom Kyrgyzstan in 2015 as the Branch Director until 2020.
In 2013, Turgunbaev became associated with OJSC Kyrgyzneftegaz and served as a member of the Board of Directors from 2013 to 2017. He went on to become the Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2017 to 2020 and the Chairman of the Board from 2020 to 2021.
Since March 2023, Turgunbaev has been serving as the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Awards
Turgunbaev has received several accolades for his contributions and achievements. He has been awarded the Honorary Diploma from Supreme Council (Kyrgyzstan), the Honorary Diploma from the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the "Excellence in Economics" award from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Kyrgyzstan). He has also been recognized with the "Excellence in State Property Management" award from the State Property Management Fund (FUGI), and Honorary Diplomas from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Kyrgyzstan) and the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic. Furthermore, he has received the Honorary Diploma from PJSC Gazprom Neft.
