Melika Motevallipoor is an Iranian-Canadian film director, television presenter, actress, and academic. She is known for her work on Iranian television and in socially conscious cinema, and for academic contributions in feminist and post-humanist film theory. As of 2024, she is pursuing a PhD in Film Studies at the University of Montreal.
Early life and education
Motevallipoor was born in Tehran, Iran. She received a Bachelor's degree in Television Directing from Iran Broadcasting University, followed by a Master's in Cinema Studies from Pars University. She later obtained a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Tehran, and is currently a doctoral candidate in Film Studies at the University of Montreal.[1]
Career
Film and acting
Motevallipoor has directed short films and appeared in television dramas such as Azadi Mashroot and Az Sarnevesht. Her work often explores themes of gender, identity, and cultural memory. She has also performed in theatrical productions, including Persian adaptations of Macbeth and Hedda Gabler.
Television hosting
She has hosted cultural and cinematic programs on Iranian TV, including Dar Entehaye Alvand and You and iFilm, focusing on cinema critique and cultural discussions.[2]
Academic work
Motevallipoor’s research interests include feminist film theory, realism, and post-humanism in cinema. She presented on the topic "Post-humanisme, concept du réalisme chez Bazin" at the 92nd ACFAS Congress in 2024.[3]
She also co-authored a semiotic analysis of the Iranian film Poost (Skin) published in an academic proceedings volume.[4]
