Mauricio De la Parra (born January 16, 1996) is a Mexican sculptor and artist renowned for his innovative approach to sculpture and his fascination with surrealism. Throughout his artistic journey, he has drawn inspiration from the surrealist movement and employed materials such as bronze, resin, geodes, and other metals to create his unique pieces. He seeks to capture the imagination of dreams and the unconscious part of the human psyche through his art.

His unique style and approach have garnered attention and appreciation from collectors and galleries, both in Mexico and abroad. He has been featured in prominent publications such as "El Sol de México," "El Reforma," and "Redactor.mx," as well as magazines like "Bay Vallarta."

Early life and education

De la Parra was born in the State of Mexico and showed a talent for clay modeling from a young age. Raised in an environment steeped in art and culture, he was encouraged in his creative pursuits by his family. His mother, an actress, and his father, an engineer who also played guitar, fostered his interests by taking him to art museums and introducing him to various artists. De la Parra's exposure to surrealism and the surrealist movement during his formative years sparked his imagination and became a major source of inspiration. Throughout his artistic journey, his family has remained supportive, with his mother and aunt playing a particularly influential role in nurturing his talents.

De la Parra began learning clay modeling at the age of 16 at a small workshop, where he honed his skills in anatomy, proportions, and material properties. A year later, he started selling his sculptures and ideas. Despite studying finance at Tecnológico de Monterrey and working for IBM in the spending department, De la Parra continued to pursue his passion for art. He joined "La Academia de San Carlos" in Mexico City to learn more about anatomy and clay modeling, followed by studying animation and 3D art at "Escena Escuela de animación y arte digital" in Mexico City, where he deepened his knowledge in anatomy, drawing, and proportions.

Career

De la Parra's art reflects his fascination with surrealism and the surrealist movement, with a neo-surrealist approach that often utilizes materials such as bronze, resin, geodes, and other metals.

In April 2019, De la Parra participated in his first exhibition at "Aguafuerte Galería," and his work has since been exhibited in various states of Mexico, including Mexico City, Jalisco, and Puebla, as well as in galleries like "Galería Corsica" and "Galería Oscar Román." His pieces have caught the attention of collectors in America and Europe and are often displayed alongside works by well-known artists such as Leonora Carrington, Jorge Marín, Javier Marín, Dr. Lakra, Cartú, and Mr. Brainwash.
