Mattias Andersson (born 1969) is a Swedish playwright and theatre director.[1][2][3]

Since 2020 he is Artistic Director for Dramaten (The Royal Dramatic Theatre) in Stockholm, Sweden.[4][5]

Between 2006-2019 he was Artistic Director for Backa Teater in Gothenburg, Sweden.[6][7]

His works have been staged at venues such as Dramaten,[8] Cullberg Ballet,[9] Unga Klara, Stockholm City Theatre, Gothenburg City Theatre, Malmö City Theatre and in countries including Denmark, Serbia, Russia, Norway, Finland, Romania and Germany.

He has been awarded numerous theatre prizes including The Swedish Theatre Critics' Award (2007, 2010), The Swedish Ibsen Prize (2006), Expressens Cultural Award (2007),[10] International Assitejs "Award for Artistic Excellence" (2017), Svenska Dagbladets Thalia Prize (2013), Prix Marulic (2010) and also nominated for Dagens Nyheter Cultural Award (2007), The Nordic Playwrights Prize (2006) and Premio Europa per il Teatro / Europe Theatre Prize (2017).[11]

Some of his theatre performances have been filmed for Swedish Television / SVT ("Utopia 2012", "Idioten" and "Vi som fick leva om våra liv").[12][13]

He has also been invited with shows to several international theatre festivals including Germany, France, USA, Finland, Serbia, Italy, Poland, Belgium.[14]
