Matti Charlton is a transgender electronic pop musician.[1] and author[2][3][4] based in Toronto, Canada.

Winner of the LGBT Youth Line Award in 2004 (as Matti Charlton),[5] Matti’s poetry books frequently appear in lists of the top 100 gay and lesbian books of all time: currently, their collection “the cosmology of love” is ranked on BookAuthority’s list at number 50.[6] Many of Matti’s writings and memoirs can be found in the ArQuives, Canada’s National LGBTQ2S+ archives.[7][8] Matti is the author of the popular 2023 children’s book about death entitled “You’re Mine”. Recent Work and Reception

Dark Addiction

Recently, Matti Charlton's single "Dark Addiction" has gained attention. Tom Farmer of "Our Sound Music" writes that it is "a brooding and honest track reflecting on society through the eyes of a young non-binary musician."[11] but also that it is "surprisingly uplifting"[12]

Johan Alexed of Popmusik.se writes "Matti is up to date here with the single Dark addiction which offers us electronic pop that is colored by a retro feeling that I personally got hooked on right away"[13].

Julien James Vachon of direct-actu.fr writes "Dark Addiction pays homage to this unique sound, this distant time."[14]

The artist[15] and track[16] now appears on Hype Machine.

The song appears on the SubmitHub Popular charts in two significant ways - it is #35 in Canada on the all-time charts for all genres, as well as at #9 for all-time and for all countries in the Classic genres.[17]

Synthwave Goodbye

After releasing several singles from the album across the summer of 2021, Matti released the full length album "Synthwave Goodbye" on Aug 31, 2021.

Reception to the singles has been favorable. Neon Delorean received write ups on Mickey's Weekly[18], Run Hundred[19] and Summer Triiangle[20] while the first single "businesswoman in the 80s" received a detailed write up on popular blog Loudness[21] as well as Mickey's Weekly[22]

"I Can’t Find You" Remixes

In early 2020, Matti Charlton’s popular track "I Can’t Find You" was given remix treatment from Echo Twelve and popular electronic artist Mysto & Pizzi.[23]

LUXXURY Remixes

In August 2020, Matti Charlton released a pair of remixes of their track "A Rocket Ship To The Moon" remixed by popular Nu-Disco artist LUXXURY.[24]

Critical reception was positive. Alli Lindsey of Casablanca Sunset writes "If you like Daft Punk, deep grooves, and disco, look no further than LUXXURY‘s remix of “A Rocket Ship to the Moon.”"[25]

Matti Charton is a published artist on Spotify with a rapid accumulation of almost 10,000 monthly listeners since February 16, 2020.[26]
