Matthew Marriott FRAS FRGS is a British & Irish Explorer, Adventurer and Traveller. He is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Matthew has lived in Australia and Cairo, Egypt; has travelled extensively around the world. He gave a lecture for the Royal Geographical Society on Christmas Island, Indian Ocean in February 2020, described as an "illuminated talk". Matthew wrote the book 'The Renaissance Diet: Eat and drink like Leonardo Da Vinci'[1] after researching the nutrition that fuelled the Renaissance era in Europe. He details his idea that to explore is a fundamental desire of all humans across the world in the Podcast 'Whiskey and a Map: True Stories of Adventure' [2]
Matthew comes from a family of Explorers, including Sir John Murray (Oceanographer of the Challenger Expedition) and Captain Jack Marriott RN, who documented Japan in the 1920s, and who was at the Signing of the Armistice at the end of the first World War.
