Matthew Jones is an Entrepreneur, British Chef, Baker, and Author. His Bread Ahead Bakery chain was founded in 2013 and in 2014 he set up his first Baking School; which run baking courses for baking enthusiasts in London and around the globe. [1]

History

Matthew Jones’ love of baking began at home, where he watched his mum regularly make homemade bakes, from traditional British cakes to simple breads. At the age of 15 Matthew began working in the food industry. His journey started at Thackeray’s in Tunbridge Wells as a chef, where he laid the foundations for his career. It’s these early years which he credits with fueling his work and passion for food. Matthew sought to refine his craft alongside other UK chefs like Shaun Hill, Simon Hopkinson and John Torode in restaurants including Bibendum, Pont de la Tour and Quaglino’s throughout the ‘90s.[2]

In 2013, Matthew seized the opportunity to take a plot at Borough Market, launching his second bakery business, Bread Ahead, in the iconic location loved by foodies. Using fresh, seasonal ingredients (which often came from the market itself) to make classic British bakes, Matthew began producing breads seven days a week, baking through the night to supply the market stall and several local restaurants. [3]

Matthew designed a baking school with over 30 baking classes that aims to show people how to bake. [4]

As Bread Ahead continues grow, expanding internationally into new markets, Matthew’s mission remains the same; to continue improving on and making traditional British bakes and French patisserie, using British sourced ingredients.[5]
