Matthew Hochstetler (born in Lawrence, Kansas) is a California-based investor and yoga instructor. Hochstetler has been leading and managing Latin American, EMEA, and Greek investments.[1] He is currently working as a Portfolio manager at Capital Group.[2] Apart from his career as an investor Hochstetler is a yoga practitioner and instructor. He is also the founder of Invest in Prana which is a mini yoga encyclopedia for yoga learners and teachers.
Early life and education
Matthew Hochstetler was born in Lawrence, Kansas to Thomas Conrad and Kathleen Elizabeth Hochstetler and is the eldest of four children. Hochstetler attended Centennial Elementary School, Central Junior High, and Lawrence High School. He was state champion and a national quarter-finalist in debate together with his partner Tom Seymour at Lawrence High School and a finalist in the National Forensic Association Student Congress.
Hochstetler attended the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown, where he graduated magna cum laude and with departmental honors. While in Georgetown, Hochstetler was also an economics teaching assistant where he received a 5.0/5.0 evaluation from all the students. Hochstetler also completed postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics.
Hochstetler completed his MBA in 2006 from the Harvard Business School, where he received top honors as a Baker Scholar. He was also elected as the Co-President of Private Equity and Venture Capital Club.
Career
Hochstetler started his career as a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company in Boston. He also completed rotations at Bain & Company’s Sydney and Singapore offices. Hochstetler worked at Bain’s nonprofit affiliate, The Bridgespan Group, where he became a published author on funding strategies in the Stanford Social Innovation Review and Nonprofit Quarterly.[3]
In 2005 Matt Hochstetler started working as an analyst at Janus Capital, where he assisted Morningstar International Manager of the year Brent Lynn.[4] In 2010, Hochstetler co-founded the Janus Emerging Markets Fund as a portfolio manager.[5] Hochstetler founded the Denver chapter of Pratham USA in 2008.[6][7]
In 2014 Hochstetler moved to Capital Group, where he started leading Canadian investment diligence.[8] He then started managing and leading Latin America, EMEA, and Greece investments. Hochstetler today is a portfolio manager at Capital Group.[9]
Hochstetler is a certified RYT-500 yoga teacher. He has taught at Core Power Yoga (Cow Hollow), City Jail 4 in San Francisco, and Guild Homeless Shelters. Hochstetler is also a national board member for the Prison Yoga Project.[10] He is the founder of Invest in Prana, which is a mini yoga encyclopedia for yoga learners and teachers. Hochstetler has authored the book Self-Healing: A Guide to Finding Healing via Yoga and Ayurveda, which will be launched in 2023.[11][12][13]
