Matt Weinhold (born May 7, 1964) is an American comedian, writer, producer, actor and podcast host.
Background and Career
Matt Weinhold is an entertainer known for his work as a comedian, actor, writer, producer, and podcaster. Born in San Francisco, California in 1964, Weinhold's has made a career that combined his passion for comedy, sci-fi, horror, and pop culture.[1]
Weinhold's first started as a stand-up comedian, headlining at numerous comedy clubs, college campuses, private functions, and even sci-fi conventions. In the 1990s in San Francisco, he was part of a satirical comedy troupe called Comedy Obscura along with Greg Proops, Mike Bossier and Debi Durst which combined pre-written sketches and improv for audiences during their run. Weinhold's has an extensive collection of comic books, movie posters, cartoon figurines, and science fiction memorabilia at home, indicating his passion for pop culture and geeky interests influenced his comedic material.[3] This work led to appearances on various TV networks, including NBC, CBS, HBO, MTV, and Comedy Central. He also pursued acting and guest-starred in TV shows such as "The Weird Al Show," "The Comeback," and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He also ventured into voice-over work, lending his talents to shows like "Throut & Neck," "Super Adventure Team," "Squirrel Boy," and "Code Monkeys." In 2008, he released a 36-track comedy album called "Dead Funny." [4]
Matt Weinhold was the winner of the Seattle International Comedy Competition in 1989.[5] In 1990, he finished third in the San Francisco Comedy Competition. [6]
Weinhold became a writer/performer on TV series such as Style Channel's "The Dish" and CBS' "Culture Click." Matt's writing has also appeared in comic format. In Creepy (Magazine)'s Dark Horse Run, Creepy #10 produced an Anthology tribute to HP Lovecraft. Matt's "Mint in Package" was a story of a collector discovering rare Dark Godz toys and suffering the consequences of opening the mint condition boxes. [7] [8]
One of Weinhold's latest projects is the "Monster Party" podcast, which he co-hosts and produces with his friends. The podcast features guests from various genres, including sci-fi and horror luminaries, as well as comedians.[9] It was nominated for a Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards in the category of Best Podcast for 2022, finishing with an Honorable Mention at award time.
