Matúš Zelieska (born 1999) is a Slovak Jewish writer[1], publisher, activist, and founder of the civic association GENIZA[2], established in 2019. The organization focuses on the documentation and preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in Slovakia, particularly in the historical region of Tekov.
Zelieska was involved in the establishment of the non-profit organization SHALOM Zlaté Moravce. In 2024, he participated in efforts to revive activities associated with the Betar[3] Zionist movement in Slovakia.
In 2020, he received the KEHILA Award[4][5][6], presented by the Jewish Community of Komárno to individuals who have contributed to Jewish religious and cultural life in the region.
In 2018, Zelieska won[7] first prize in the literary competition Esej Jána Johanidesa for his essay Quintessence of Changeant. His first published book, the poetry collection A pokoj skvitne, appeared in 2019.[1]
In 2023, he published Korene psychoanalýzy na Slovensku – Emanuel Windholz (1903–1986)[8], a biographical and historical study of the psychoanalyst and psychiatrist Emanuel Windholz. Zelieska has also given public lectures on the subject.[9][10] He is the author of the historical novel Silent Edessa: From the Ruins of the New Sun, the first volume of a planned historical-fiction series.[2]
In 2025, Zelieska served as curator of an exhibition of paintings by Nikolaus Paul Esterházy de Galantha et Fraknó, which was presented in Prague, Čachtice, and Bratislava.[11]
