Martha Pinson is an American filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and script supervisor based in New York. Known for her work on independent films and collaborations with major directors, she has contributed to projects spanning feature films, television, and theater. Her directorial feature Tomorrow (2018) won multiple festival awards, and her script supervision credits include films such as The Departed (2006) and Hugo (2011).[1]

Career

Directing

Pinson has directed numerous films and theatrical productions. Her feature film Tomorrow (2018) earned Best Narrative Feature at the SCAD Savannah, Napa Valley[2], and Seneca film festivals, along with Best Director at the Sunscreen Film Festival. Other directing credits include the award-winning short film Don't Nobody Love the Game More Than Me (2002), which aired on PBS' Independent Lens, and the Off-Broadway play Small Potatoes (1999–2000). She also directed the pilot episode of the comedy series Rescue Meal (2008–09) and the short film King Alive (2006), featuring Martin Luther King Jr. excerpts.

Screenwriting

Pinson has written and adapted several screenplays, including the coming-of-age drama Body Count 1968, an adaptation of Stendhal’s The Red and the Black, and the stage play Climbing Ladders in the Moonlight. She collaborated with novelist Sonja Greenlee on adaptations such as The Last Resort and the comedic play The Loophole.

Script Supervision

Pinson served as a script supervisor for directors such as Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island, The Aviator), Sidney Lumet (Prince of the City, Night Falls on Manhattan), and Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill).[3] She contributed to television series including Boardwalk Empire (2010) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2007).

Consulting and Other Work

She has been a directing consultant for Richard Wenk, Darren Starr, and Tom Cavanagh. Her early career included roles as an associate producer for the documentary Bugs Bunny Superstar (1975) and script supervision for films like Wall Street (1987) and Ragtime (1981).
