Marko Stupar (born 8 December 1981 in Belgrade) is a former handball player and handball coach holding Luxembourgish, Serbian, and Bosnian citizenship. During his playing and coaching career, he has achieved significant success in Luxembourg, especially with HC Berchem, with whom he has won the Luxembourg Championship, the Luxembourg Cup, and the Luxembourg Super Cup as head coach. He has been named Coach of the Year twice.[1][2]
Early life and education
Stupar was born in Belgrade, Serbia, where he began his handball career. He graduated from the Higher Coaching Academy within the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education (DIF) at the University of Belgrade, specialising as a Senior Handball Coach and Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Playing career
He played professional handball in Serbia, Belgium, and Luxembourg. From 2016 to 2021, he played for HC Berchem, becoming an important part of the team before transitioning into coaching.
Coaching career
Handball Schifflange (2011–2016)
From 2011 to 2016, Stupar coached all youth categories from U10 to U21 and served as player-coach for the first team.
HC Berchem
From 2016, he coached the U21 team (winning the Luxembourg Championship and Cup in 2016/17 and 2017/18) and later the U15 team (Cup in 2018/19, Championship and Cup in 2019/20). He served as assistant coach of the senior team from 2021 to 2022, and from 2022 became head coach. Under his leadership, HC Berchem won the Luxembourg Championship (2023/24) and both the Cup and Super Cup (2024/25).[3][4]

Personal life
He is married to handball player Doris Monteiro Costa Stupar, whom he met while both were playing for HBC Schifflange.[1]

Influences and coaching formation
His coaching development was influenced by coaches from his playing career: Grbović, Lakić, Kraljevski, Isaković, and Jordović. In his further coaching education, he enjoys listening to and learning from as many coaches as possible, with the greatest influence coming from Spanish experts, including Talant Dujshebaev, Manolo Cadenas, Juan Carlos Pastor, Raúl González Gutiérrez, and Xavi Pascual. From the very beginning, his father followed him on this path and has been his greatest source of advisory support. He names Dejan Gajić as his mentor.
