Mario Karaj (born October 24, 1982) is a renowned Albanian healthcare leader. He is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Hospitals Group in Albania and Kosovo, which includes Hygeia Hospital in Tirana.
Education
Karaj completed his secondary education at the American Technical School “Harry Fultz” in Tirana, in the business department. He continued his higher studies at Baruch College in New York, where he specialized in Management and Economics. He then completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program in the United Kingdom.
Career
In 2010, Karaj joined the American Hospital in Albania as General Manager. In 2018, he was appointed Executive Director of Hygeia Hospital in Tirana. In October 2024, he assumed the position of CEO of the American Hospital Group in Albania and Kosovo.
Before returning to Albania, Karaj worked in the United States of America in the field of finance. According to an interview with BalkanWeb, he gained professional experience on Wall Street, collaborating with financial firms and specializing in market analysis and capital management.
Karaj has expressed interest in developing medical tourism in Albania. In an interview with USA Today, he emphasized the goal of transforming the American Hospital into a key destination for global health tourism, offering personalized services according to contemporary standards to international patients.
