Mario Jesus Cariño Merritt (Mario Merritt.[1]) born February 4 1958 is the 6th generation descendant of Gabriela Silang, he is the son of Jesus Merritt (Jesus Villanueva Merritt)[2] an Afro-Filipino author, journalist, writer and government official from Agoo La Union and Gloria Cariño[3] (Gloria Valeros Cariño) of Tayum Abra is the great-granddaughter of Gabriela Silang[4]. Mario Merritt and his son Gloman Merritt[2] resides in the Philippines.
Description
The Gabriela Silang statue in Ayala avenue on horseback was placed by the Zóbel de Ayala family at the Ayala Triangle gardens in Makati City, the Philippines financial centre. The monument was created by Jose M. Mendoza in 1971, and was inaugurated by Gloria Cariño and Mario Cariño Merritt Gabriela Silang descendants[5]
