Marco Arcelli is an Italian businessman with more than 20 years of C-level international experience in energy, infrastructure and retail, who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of ACWA Power.[1][2]

Early life and education

Marco Arcelli was born in Genoa, Italy in 1971.[3] He holds a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Genova and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.[4]

Career

Arcelli spent 16 years at Enel where he served as the company's EVP Upstream Gas, President and CEO of North America, and CEO of Slovakia, among other positions.[4] Arcelli also held senior positions at General Electric Power Systems, and executive positions in projects and construction management, as well as senior positions at European power producer EPH Group.[5][6]

Arcelli is a board member of global food retailer Metro AG, EP New Energy and EP Produzione, where he was formerly Chairman.[7] He is the co-founder of Italian IOT startup Ultrafab, and former board member of OGK5 and Severenergia.[7]

He has taught as a professor of leadership in energy transition at the Spanish business school IESE, where he remains an executive fellow,[8] and has been a peer reviewer of the IEA.[5] His work in managing ENEL's acquisition of Slovenské Elektrárne, the dominant power producer in Slovakia, was the subject of a case study published by IESE.[9]

Arcelli is also a published author. His novel The Island That Was Not was published in 2009 in Italian, and an English translation was published in 2012.[10][3]
