Marc Jobst is a Zimbabwean theatre and television director and producer. Initially contributing to long running BBC dramas such as Casualty and EastEnders, he has since shifted to American productions including Daredevil, The Witcher, and One Piece.
Early life
Born in Zimbabwe, Jobst's father worked as a cattle rancher while his mother was a painter.[1] Moving to London, Jobst graduated from Newcastle University with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture in 1983.[2][3]
Career
Jobst starred in a one-man production based on The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner in London, directed by John Yorke.[4] He also cofounded the theater production company Three Monkeys Theatre Company. Jobst worked with the BBC for 10 years as a producer and director on numerous drama shows.
His first American production was the season 3 episode "Aperitivo" of Hannibal.[5] Beginning work for Netflix, Jobst would direct episodes of the Marvel shows Daredevil, Luke Cage, and The Punisher.[6] Jobst then In addition to directing the final two episodes of the first season, he also worked on reshoots for the pilot episode, shooting a lauded sword fight in one continuous shot.[7][8]
Jobst was then contacted by One Piece show runner Matt Owens to executive produce and direct the first two episodes of the live-action series. Owens previously worked with Jobst on the season two episode "Wig Out" of Luke Cage, and contacted him to work on the new series after being impressed by his ability to juggle the humorous and dramatic tones of the episode. This made One Piece the seventh series Jobst worked on for Netflix.[9][10]
He is currently working on two feature films. The first, Home, explores homelessness through the eyes of three young people while the second is based on a true story set during World War II in Lithuania.[5]
