Maodong Xu (born 1967) is a Chinese businessman known for serving as the founder and CEO of companies such as DotAd (now Focus Wireless), EGLS Technology, Galaxy Internet, and Fresh2.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and education

Xu grew up in a small fishing village in the city of Rizhao in the Shandong province of China.[3] In 1990, he graduated from Wuhan University of Technology with a degree in computer application and automation (minor in business management).[3]

Career

At the age of 26, Xu founded his first business, QiLu Supermarket, in 1994.[1][3][4] QiLu Supermarket went on to become the largest supermarket in the Shandong province before expanding into a supermarket chain.[3]

Two years later, Xu founded SMS app company DotAd, which eventually became the largest SMS enterprise application company in China and was acquired by Focus Media in 2006, becoming Focus Wireless.[1][3][4]

In 2007, Xu founded EGLS Technology, which went on to become one of China’s leading mobile game developers before its acquisition by Dragon Pipe in 2015. Xu also founded Lmobile in 2008, which became a prominent mobile newspaper and MMS advertising network platform in China before its acquisition by Telstra in 2010.[1][3] He founded e-commerce platform 55tuan in 2010, which went public in 2011.[5] He went on to found several other companies during the period from 2007-2010, such as WeLink and Xiao Neng Technology.[3][4]

Xu founded startup incubator Galaxy Internet Group in 2015.[1][3] In 2017, Xu was named to the Top 10 News Figures in China list alongside other prominent individuals such as Jack Ma.[1][3][6] Other accolades Xu has received include the Special Talent for Technological Innovation award from the Beijing Government.[1]

Xu came to the United States in 2018 to start a new business endeavor with his son.[1] Xu eventually became founder and President of blockchain payments company Roxe.[7][2][8] Roxe would go on to establish partnerships with payment service providers such as GME in South Korea[2] and GCash in the Philippines.[8] Roxe announced plans to go public by the end of 2022.[9]

Most recently, Xu founded Fresh2, a business-to-business e-commerce platform and app delivery service that helps restaurants acquire food supplies.[3][10]
