Maja Kitajewska is a visual artist, working and living in Warsaw. She is known as a experimental textile artist focusing on the contemporary embroidery and painting.

Alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Currently working as an Assistant [1]Professor at the Painting Faculty at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw She’s the author of many individual and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad (Germany, Switzerland, Peru, Denmark, Italy)

Education

Kitajewska attended the General School of Fine Arts from 1999 until 2005, when she graduated with a diploma with honors.

In 2005 she started to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw on the Painting Faculty. She graduated with a diploma with honors in 2011. The same year she took part in exhibition of best diploma of Academy of Fine Arts and won art prize by SIEMENS as well as art prize by ENTRY for the best diploma.

In 2017 she studied at Pedagogical studies College of Social Sciences Institute for the Development of Teaching Staff "Education". She graduated in 2018.

Career

Her first debut solo exhibition took place in Warsaw at the m2 Gallery, where she presented a series of paintings made entirely in sequin embroidery, the theme of which referred to pop culture. The implementation of the exhibition at the Young Forum of Art "The last one turns off the light" in 2012 resulted in cooperation with the Lublin artistic community centered around the Biała Gallery. Result of which was a series of shared exhibitions (Biała, Malarki, Marzenia wio (senne), art. dekoracyjne.)

In the meantime, the subject matter of her works began to focus on the existential themes of man and the world in which he happened to live. She presented her works at individual exhibitions in Warsaw (Bardzo Biała Gallery), in Krakow (Galeria Szara) and group exhibitions in Nowy Sącz (Galeria Sokół), Krakow (open studio). Since 2017, it has been represented by Szydłowski Gallery. Around this period, in parallel to working on paintings, she began to create spatial forms, calling them flexible sculptures, using 3D embroidery with glass beads (Beyond the Pleasure Principle I,II,III,IV, mammal, food pyramid). to exhibitions in the capital as well as foreign exhibitions Peru (IK Project Gallery), Germany (Positions Berlin Art Fair 2019 - articles in Der Tagesspiegel, Frankfurter Allgemeine, 2021) Switzerland (la rada) 2020, Denmark (Enter Art Fair) 2022, Poland (Warsaw Art Fair Hotel)2022. Since 2019, she has been working at her alma mater, at the Faculty of Painting in the 2nd Painting Studio for first year students.

At the beginning of October 2022, she exhibited her works in Italy (Faenza) in the company of artists working at the Warsaw Academy, the exhibition was organized as part of the mosaic biennale in Ravenna. In the same month, the presentation and exhibition “Maja Kitajewska & Paolo Uccello. The Glow of Unearthly Delights” at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. In November of the same year, she received a distinction in a global competition for the artistic award Jutta Cuny - Franz Award 2023 organized by the Jutta Cuny - Franz Foundation in consultation with the Kunstpalast in Dusseldorf.
