Mahnoor Syed is an American media and design professional. She holds the distinction of being the first and youngest Muslim American women in News Directing in America.

Early life and education

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Mahnoor Syed grew up during a period of increased challenges and prejudices faced by Muslims in the United States post 9/11.

Syed began her journey as a slam poet in Chicago during her high school days, actively engaging with the local community through the power of spoken word. She used her poetry to advocate for cultural understanding, breaking down barriers through the art of storytelling.

While in high school, Syed co-produced the 12-minute documentary Celebrating Maine's Flyer with her classmates.[1]

Syed attended Columbia College Chicago, where she graduated in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Cinema TV Arts and Graphic Design. While at college, she worked as a student ambassador.

Personal life

Post-graduation in 2012, Syed began volunteering at MCC Elston's Sunday School in Islamic Studies. She served as an Assistant Teacher, later becoming a full-fledged teacher, and presently holds a significant role in the Administration.

Career

From 2017 until 2019, Syed worked for Frequency TV as a content producer and video editor.

Syed worked at IFANCA (Islamic Food And Nutrition Council) from 2020-2022 as a Digital Content Producer and Media-Art Director. At the same time, she worked at Nexstar Media (WGN Chicago), where she helped produce the morning news and as a Floor Director and Assistant Director.

Mahnoor Syed is the founder of JoyFPD LLC (Joy Film Photo Design), a design and media business. She has produced wedding/event video, photo, web design, graphic design, and marketing campaigns for clients, including Niswa Fashion, Luminosity Skin Care, Modern Wall Arts, Ifanca and I Heart Halal, CIOGC, Sabeel Center, SlayyCollective, Interpretap, Reza and Puja Khan on Youtube, The Abrahamic Center for Cultural Education, ABC7, WGN, and more.
