Mr. Maha Prasad Adhikari is currently the 17th Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank and Chairperson on the Board of Directors of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). He was appointed as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank by the Government of Nepal on 6th April 2020. Prior to taking on the role of Governor at NRB, he served as the Chief Executive Officer at the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) from the period of 3 years. Before assuming his office as the CEO of IBN he also held the position of Deputy Governor at NRB. Education Mr. Adhikari has completed chartered accountant accredited from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and is also a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN). Career Mr. Adhikari has a distinguished career of more than 30 years in central banking. He has gained substantial expertise in areas such as financial stability, financial sector reforms, Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism, and the implementation of Accounting Standards, among other critical aspects of central banking in Nepal.

Under his leadership, IBN successfully organized two major international Investment summits in 2017 and 2019. His visionary approach led to the development of a project pipeline known as the Project Bank, which guides the identification, appraisal, selection, and prioritization of infrastructure projects.

In his role as Deputy Governor of NRB, Mr. Adhikari played a pivotal role in shaping various financial sector policies and reform programs. His active involvement extended to areas like Problem Bank Resolution, Capital Adequacy Framework, Risk-Based Supervision, Early Warning Systems, and Prompt Corrective Actions. Notably, he took on the crucial responsibility of coordinating the management team of Nepal Bangladesh Bank Limited during a challenging period and contributed significantly to its successful turnaround.

Mr. Adhikari has also served on the boards of several public sector institutions, including Butwal Power Company Limited, Udayapur Cement Factory, Nepal Clearing House Limited, National Insurance Corporation, and Security Board of Nepal.

Other Activities Currently, Mr. Adhikari serves as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) since 2020. He also holds the position of Vice Chair for the South Asia Region Financial Inclusion Initiative of AFI for the period 2022-23. In the recent past, he acted as the Chairman of SAARCFINANCE, an organization consisting of SAARC Central Bank Governors and Finance Secretaries, during the period 2021-22. Additionally, he served as the Vice Chair of the Asia-Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association during 2014-15.

He has actively participated as a member of various committees within ICAN and also contributed to the Committee for Improvement in Transparency, Accountability, and Governance (CITAG) of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).
