Fahiym Acuay (born January 29, 1981), better known as Mac Smiff, is a Portland Oregon-based journalist, activist, and is the editor of a regional hip hop online magazine, We Out Here Magazine. He is known as a community organizer and leader in the Black Lives Matter movement, calling to defund the Portland Police Bureau. Smiff has received attention during the 2020 protests over the killing of George Floyd[1] and has been published in The Oregonian[2][3], Portland Mercury[4], and Vortex Music Magazine[5], among other publications.

Smiff was born in Queens, New York and moved to the Portland Metro area at the age of 11. He spent his early years as a rapper, advocate and writer for hip-hop music[6]. In 2013, after authoring a popular article about SXSW in We Out Here Magazine, Smiff assumed the editor-in-chief role.

Smiff is a plaintiff in a group lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and others in the federal government [7] for an injury sustained[8] while covering the protests as a journalist in downtown Portland. In addition to physical injuries, Smiff has received death threats from the right-wing.[9]
