Long Island City, sometimes abbreviated as LIC, is a residential and business area located on the most western point of the borough of Queens in New York City. It has Astoria to the north, the East River to the west, New Calvary Cemetery in Sunnyside to the east, and Newtown Creek to the south, which is the boundary between Queens and Greenpoint in Brooklyn.

Prior to its incorporation as a city in 1870, Long Island City served as the administrative centre of the neighbouring town of Newtown. In 1898, however, the town was annexed by the City of Greater New York. Long Island City gained notoriety in the early 21st century for the fast and continued residential expansion and gentrification it experienced, as well as for its waterfront parks and its strong arts scene. The region is home to a significant number of art studios, art galleries, and art institutes.

The Queensboro Bridge's eastern terminal, which is located in Long Island City, is the sole automobile route between Queens and Manhattan that does not charge a toll. The Queensbridge Houses are located to the north-northwest of the bridge. They are owned and operated by the New York City Housing Authority, and they are the biggest public housing complex in the Western Hemisphere.

To the north, Long Island City is included in Queens Community District 1, while to the south, it is included in Queens Community District 2. It is under the jurisdiction of the 108th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. When it comes to politics, Long Island City is represented by the 26th District of the New York City Council.
