Lincoln is the county town and cathedral city of Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom. The non-metropolitan district of Lincoln had a population of 94,600 people in 2012, according to the census. The urban area of Lincoln, which includes North Hykeham and Waddington, had a population of 115,000 people in 2011, according to the 2011 census. The Roman town of Lindum Colonia grew out of an Iron Age hamlet on the banks of the River Witham. Lincoln Cathedral – a masterpiece of English Gothic architecture that stood as the world's tallest structure for for than 200 years – and the 11th-century Norman Lincoln Castle are also must-sees. In addition to the University of Lincoln, Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln Municipal FC, and Lincoln United FC are all located in the city limits.
